DESCRIPTION: Back reads, “Hotel St. Gellert and Mineral Baths.” The Danubius Hotel Gellert is an Art Nouveau hotel on the right river of Danube in Budapest, Hungary. Construction on the Hotel Saint Gellert started in 1912. The hotel was named for Saint Gellert the first bishop of Hungary in the 11
th
century. The 176-room hotel opened in 1918, just as the war was ending and the Austro-Hungarian Empire was descending in chaos. Card back is stamped with “Public Library, Portland, Maine”.
CONDITION: Unused; not mailed. Public Library circular rubber stamp on back side. Soft corners. Corner bumps, bends. Edge wear. Soiling and age tanning. POOR to Fair condition
