  • Condition: The surface of this original handmade marquetry is glossy. That causes the details and natural wood colors to pop bautifully. However, because of the glossy surface I had to take photos at a steep angle to avoid camera flashback. There are well over 100 individual pieces in this original woodworking piece. Measurements: just over 14 1/4 inches wide, by just a fuzz under 11 inches in height. There are more than 100 pieces of individually cut wood carefully placed and beautifully finished in this composition. The 10th photo shows a very tiny tiny chip in the bottom edge of the boarder (under the image). The 11th photo shows a natural line in the wood (not a crack or a separation of any kind).

    Description

    Beautiful handmade marquetry.  The size is stated above in the conditon's section.  I would rate this piece a 9 of 10 in terms of conditon.  It is near mint.
    It is a delightful scene that was totally handmade and hand pieced together.  You would need the hands of a surgeon and the eyes of a baby eagle to do this kind of detailed work.  Not to mention the patience of Job, to accomplish such work.  The scene is of an old riverfront township.  It looks to me like something in the Old world of early Europe.  One thing I noticed is that the choice of wood in the background provides a beautiful sky background, that actually appears to be fluid and in motion.  The water also has a sense of movement simply by the artist's placement and use of wood that has perfect woodgrain to simulate the movement of water.
    This is a beautiful and elegant piece.  I only wish I knew where the scene was captured from.  With the old church spires it looks orthadox to me.
