    Author's Introduction:
Milk bottle collecting continues to be very popular. The main purpose of this book is to increase the size of the history part of the book and to change dairy photos. Also reproductions continue to influence new collectors ,this section will help them isolate the problem. The reproduction problem will continue to plague collectors but the more information published will at least put all collectors on common ground. The term reproduction means to make a copy of a real milk bottle or make a fantasy type milk bottle which all collectors would want to add to their collection. These bottles are made to fool the public.
The prices listed in this book are for quarts, clean, no case wear or stain. Smaller Sizes are usually lower in price. The prices listed in this book are real and not the typical price guide exaggerated prices. The prices are being paid by collectors either at bottle shows or the internet. If you sell to dealers, expect to receive one half of prices quoted.
There seems to be three levels of prices. Auction, local collectors and general collectors. The general collector will pay a fair price at all times. Local collectors will pay top dollar for specific milk bottles from their towns or areas which the general collector could care less about. Auction prices are driven by the spur of the moment and usually not by people who know prices of milk bottles. Many milk bottles can be purchased much cheaper at bottle shows than auctions.
People often question where have these beautiful milk bottles have been for 40-50 years. Milk bottles are often found under houses where they were put instead of on the porch for the milkman. Others are found in basements with oil, buttons ,or who knows what in them. The pyro milk bottle is rarely dug as the mineral in the soil reacts to the painted label and it rubs off. A few milk bottles are found that were never used by the dairies, long out of business.
Do you have a milk bottle from the town where you grew up? I have milk bottles from all the towns we have lived and it seems now, collect milk bottles from the places I would like to live. Milk bottle collectors are the nicest people in the world and I hope you join us.
