Indonesia, Peru to accelerate Comprehensive Economic Partnership negotiations

JAKARTA, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) — Indonesia and Peru have agreed to intensify the third round of Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) negotiations, which began on Tuesday and will continue until Friday in Jakarta.
The aim is “to expedite a substantial agreement, which is planned to be announced by leaders of both countries during the APEC Economic Leaders Week in Peru in November 2024,” according to Johni Martha, director of Bilateral Negotiations at Indonesia’s Trade Ministry and head of the Indonesian Negotiating Team.
Key points of the negotiations include discussions on market access, technical regulations, food security, and the reduction of non-tariff barriers.
On the same occasion, Gerardo Meza, director of Asia, Oceania and Africa at the Peru’s Foreign Affairs Ministry and head of the Peruvian delegation, expressed his country’s optimism about trade opportunities with Indonesia to enhance sustainable economic growth.
He also regarded the participation of Peruvian entrepreneurs in the Indonesia-Latin America and the Caribbean Business Forum last weekend in Lima as an indication of their interest and confidence in economic cooperation with Indonesia. ■
